| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Tamron now offers a lightweight, compact, high-image-quality telephoto zoom lens with macro capability of 1:2 that can be used with digital cameras. This new lens is a Di type lens using an optical system with improved multi-coating designed to function with digital SLR cameras as well as film cameras. With this 70-300mm telephoto zoom lens, flipping a macro switch in the focal length range of 180mm to 300mm obtains a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2 at a minimum focus distance as short as 37.4, enabling close-up shots of flowers, insects, and other objects that normally require the use of a specially designed macro lens. Moreover, this is a zoom lens that casually offers the distant capture and foreshortening effect pleasures of the 300mm ultra-telephoto world.

Tamron 70-300 September 10, 2010 Paul N I purchased this lens as a macro zoom I would not sugest using it for microstock purposes it does have a tendency to leave an aura around the shot when viewed at 100% Otherwise it is a great lens for the money. If you are looking for a lens to add to your kit for everyday purposes it's a great deal.
Good for the attached price-tag. Not good otherwise. September 7, 2010 Sanket Daru (India) Hi,
I was on a tight budget and needed a good lens that could cater to 200mm plus telephoto range and one which has a decent macro. Tamron fit the bill and I decided to buy. The decision was tough as there were numerous contradicting reviews so I thought I would add my review as well which may help someone else.
From picture quality, my Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR [Vibration Reduction] Zoom Nikkor Lens takes better pictures which if I crop would get me a far better result. The extra 100mm range does come in really handy to get a tight framing but the picture quality is not Nikkor sharp.
What I did like about this lens was its capability for good Macro. I was able to take few really good macros with this lens and it justified the purchase. But do remember that the focusing distance is high for macros and the macro mode maybe activated only in the 180-300mm range! The focal length and distance (also the weight of this lens) necessitate a good, sturdy tripod. Weigh-in your own requirements and budget before you decide to buy this lens.
This lens is good for the price-tag. PERIOD.
Great Lens May 31, 2010 Wendy R. Money (Spartanburg, SC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This Tamron AF 70-300mm lens is great. Please keep in mind it does not have a stablizer therefore is better to use with a tripod or a very steady hand. For the price it is a great lens. It takes excellent photographs and the zoom is perfect.
great camera for the hobbiest May 17, 2010 Laura A. Lok Defender I have only used it a few times but finding the results great. I would recommend a tripod for all macro use and most use over 180mm as it is a little touchy on the focusing side. the insturctions are not great that come with it but a little playing and it is easy to figure out. works fine on my d90
Tamron AF 70-300mm May 14, 2010 Juan M. Pena A good value for the price. I should of bought it sooner instead of hesitating.
